What are phonics and phonemes?
If you have a child who is pre-school or in the Foundation Stage, you are going to hear lots about phonics and phonemes. So what are they?
Actually they’re only a posh word for sounds. When children are about 3 - 5 teachers always call a letter by its sound rather than its letter name. If you wish to help your child, it’s important that you teach him or her the proper sound so as to avoid confusion later. I’m no expert, but see the following video for pointers on this.
