Nursery Rhymes: Five Little Speckled Frogs

Nursery rhymes really help social and language development in children. You can start from birth using a combination of picture books and singing from memory. Your child will enjoy hearing the same nursery rhyme repeated and will love watching your face and joining in with actions. I like 5 Little Speckled Frogs because it also covers counting back from 5 in ones. When I sing it with my Reception class, I choose 5 children to sit on a bench (the log) and they can jump onto the carpet (the pool).

“5 little speckled frogs

sat on a speckled log

eating a most delicious bug… yum, yum!

one jumped into the pool

where it was nice and cool

then there were 4 speckled frogs… burp, burp!

4 little speckled frogs…”

(repeat with 4 frogs, then 3, 2, and 1 frog)

What are your favourite nursery rhymes?
